After the election of 1800 Thomas Jefferson was elected president. Jefferson was a Republican, and lift state governments. During his presidency he was willing to cooperate with the Federalists, but he wanted the Republicans to gain control of the judiciary. One of Jeffersons greatest accomplishments as president was the Louisiana Purchase, where he recur the size of the United States.
